When speaking of Qi Gong, firstly, we should understand what the essence of "Qi"is. There are many kinds of "Qi," but Chinese traditional culture emphasizes that the most basic one is "YuanQi" - the origin of all living things. YuanQi is an engine or an anchor for human's growth, metabolism and physical development. YuanQi also plays an important role in defending illnesses. So Chinese medicine teaches that the life all depends on the circulation of Qi. Qi Gong depends on the theory of "Qi". If practiced properly, it will be very useful for curing illness. There are many sects of Qi Gong. According to Chinese history, Qi Gong was passed down among the people. Thousands of years ago, the Chinese began to absorb the essence of the sun and the moon. This because an advanced form of internal Gongfu and has been handed down from generation to generation. Until recent days, the great masters can use his posture and mind to arouse his internal and potential power. This combination can become Qi coupled with hardness and softness. The Qi can be moved to any part of your body using your mind to control it. Qi has the power to restore your body making it strong enough to defend and resist against illness and physical attack. This kind of internal Gongfu not only can strengthen your body, but also can refine your character, improve your physiological action and develop potetial. This is the intention of Buddhism.
What's the essence of Qi of Shaolin Qigong? It's a kind of force which within your body being released suddenly and unconsciously. It's a kind of comprehensive force that belongs to mankind.
Shaolin Martial Arts are composed of internal and external components. Internal Martial Arts refer to Qigong. External Martial Arts refer to forms, fighting with bare hands and weapons. When achieving a high level, you will get the wonderful combination between internal and external refinement In Qigong, being quiet is very important. Such as standing still, sitting still, laying still. Firstly, you should take your mind to control your circulation of Qi and blood. The beginner mainly practices in a standing still position.
If you can practice Qigong whole-heartedly, you can feel the Qi between your hands within three days, these feelings are: numb, warm, hot. Then the abdomen will have warm feeling. After 3-6 months, you can take your mind to control the Qi. Qi is leaded by mind and Qi is companied with mind, the abdomen will form Dan Tian .Which has the ability to resist against a punch or strike. This control will allow to break a brick or stone into pieces. Practising Qigong can strengthen your body and help you against entire force, which can help you in combat or competition . The longer you practise, the more Qi you will obtain. The practice of Qigong has three requirements. No.1, regulating your breathing (breath naturally) No.2, controlling your mind (get rid of your distracting thoughts) No.3, regulate your body (keep your body coordinated naturally)
